I came across Cochiese's twitter profile on my habitual search for new artists and I'm sure glad I did. Hailing from Atlanta, GA, Cochiese is a hip-hop artist with a plethora of songs on his Soundcloud page.

His latest EP release, Hard to Believe, features two hazy and melancholic hip-hop songs, "Dreamer" and "Hard to Believe." "Dreamer" samples "Daydreamers" by British soul and jazz singer Andreya Triana and perfectly encapsulates the hazy, ethereal, and dreamy nature of the song. My only wish is that it were a little longer since it sounds more like an intro than anything else. Regardless, the beat is mellow, slow, and hypnotizing and there's plenty of pitch shifting as well to add an off-kilter layer. The drums sound warm and crisp as if they were coming straight from vinyl or cassette. "Hard to Believe" is my favorite track off the EP because it sounds like it should be enjoyed while smoking a blunt and just closing your eyes, taking in the atmosphere, melancholy, and dreary beats.

While listening to him I thought of some of my favorite hip-hop artists like Andre Nickatina and Danny Brown. Although, Cochiese's flow is uniquely his own, I found comparisons to these artists that made me like Cochiese even more. Here's hoping to more songs in the near future.

Head on over to his Soundcloud page to listen to the Hard to Believe EP and other songs for download.
