The first time I had Jeremiah Weed Sarsaparilla Whiskey was during a company retreat in December of last year. It was sweeter than any other whiskey I'd ever had. Since I already had my fair share of party fuel during the first night of the retreat, I don't remember what I mixed the whiskey with. I think it was Squirt. The haphazard drink combination set the stage for what would be a night of laughs and... the rest I don't remember. My coworkers did mention that me and my girlfriend were "hilarious" which probably means they had a good laugh at our expense. But I don't mind. I found a new favorite whiskey.

Jeremiah Weed Sarsaparilla Whiskey boasts a "creamy soda shop flavor with a kick." That kick is comprised of dulcet notes of vanilla, wintergreen, licorice, and caramel. After one taste of the drink I had to get my own. Once the retreat was over and I was home I called about 5 different liquor stores with no luck until one offered to order it for me and I was ecstatic. I decided to mix it with what I had around the house and here's the result.

The Single Shot

After tasting the Sarsaparilla Whiskey right after the trip, it was just like I remembered. It was bitter pungent, invigorating, tasty, and sweet. The shot alone is great on its own. If you don't have a chaser you won't need one, unless you have a sensitivity to drinking alcoholic drinks.

Whiskey with Coke/Cherry Pepsi

I tried the whiskey with Coke and Cherry Pepsi (not at the same time). When I mixed it with Coke it definitely went down even smoother. The carbonation in the Coke mixed well with the whiskey's "kick," The Cherry Pepsi combo was far less satisfying but I did enjoy the cherry flavor just not Pepsi's version of it.

Muddled Mint and Blackberry

When I first tasted this drink combination, I loved the different textures. I liked the fleshy tiny morsels of blackberries and muddled mint straight from my patio. It wasn't too overpowering, and I shall definitely try out different fruits-- maybe some blueberries, mango? Anything goes!

With Irish Cream

The mixture of Sarsaparilla whiskey and Irish Cream burned my throat so good. I could definitely taste the decadent and silky cream blend with the sweet fumes of the whiskey waft up through my nose. This drink had a different type of sweetness to it. It was a bit overly sweet for my taste but that may be because I added a bit too much of Irish Cream. Just look at the drink. It's almost completely white.

Overall, my favorite drink of the evening was the solo shot. If you can't handle it neat, opt for the classic choice, Coke. I have yet to try it again with Squirt but, trust me, that's at the top of my grocery list.

    1. I'll have to try that. I'm a newbie to spirits in general haha. And yes I think 90% of why I like this drink is the label.
