If you're anything like me and my girlfriend, you appreciate going to great vegetarian-friendly restaurants. That's why I was so excited when I got the chance to collaborate with Bushfire Kitchen at their Temecula, CA location. This farm-to-table restaurant focuses on healthy, homemade comfort food and most of it is gluten free too.

My girlfriend and I began the trip to Temecula and found ourselves stuck in a seemingly endless line of bumper-to-bumper traffic. Earlier that day a small plane crashed into a car killing one and severely injuring 5 others. After driving past the aftermath of the tragedy, we made it to Temecula with more than a few minutes to spare before we had to be at Bushfire Kitchen.

Location

Once we arrived, we noticed there was ample shaded outdoor seating. We went inside and met with Tasha, the manager. The inside had a long span of bench seating and a cafeteria-style serving area. The menu was written on squares of chalkboard hanging from the ceiling. Wines were perched above the serving glass divider.

Service

Tasha proceeded to bring out a few of Bushfire's specialty dishes. She was nice and attentive even though they were experiencing an extremely busy early dinner rush. She brought out four dishes at once: two salads and two entrees.

Food

Their signature dishes included the following:
  • Spinach and Strawberry Salad
  • Natural Tri-Tip Bowl
  • Natural Angus Tri-Tip
  • Quinoa, Beets, and Wild Arugula Salad

I really enjoyed the smokey and charred flavor of the tri-tip. It was tender and savory to my delight. It sat on a bed of Himalayan basmati rice and was accompanied by a side of vegetables. The strawberry salad was one of my favorite dishes. It was sweet and fresh-tasting. It had toasted almonds and chunks of goat cheese. It was my girlfriend's favorite too. The tri-tip entree had a side of creamy and thick mashed potato

The arugula salad had a nice balance of bitterness with the more approachable flavor of the oranges and beets for color. It was heavy on the greens which tasted fresh and wholesome. I don't usually eat beets but I enjoyed how they were incorporated in the dish. In terms of sides, the scallion dip for the poppy seed bread was quite tasty as well.

Atmosphere

There was a constant influx of people filtering in and out. Patrons ranged from older couples to entire families to the occasional solo eater. The interior had a warm and rustic feel and captured the comfort of eating a great home-cooked meal. Everything from the wood tables to the delectable spread of food really represented their farm-to-table philosophy.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed the tri-tip bowl and the strawberry and spinach salad. I would definitely try all of their burgers the next tie I visit. My girlfriend's favorites were the strawberry salad and the mashed potatoes side. To be honest, I really enjoyed all of their offerings.

With two convenient locations in Temecula and Carlsbad (and more on the way), it's a perfect hangout for friends and family. If you're thinking of visiting, their "Happy Hour" is from 2 to 5 pm including half off all wines.
